Planning your marketing for 2018? Here are 3 trends that will rock your world!

Are you ready to hit 2018 in a big way with your business? Do you already have the ball rolling on new ideas, products and services?

Don’t forget to give your marketing a little love. Marketing can give your business the edge it needs over competitors. It’s an important way to drive customers to your business and keep them.

With the aftermath of New Years often being a little quieter as business start to re-open and ramp back up, there’s no better time than now to grab your key team members together, supply some yummy snacks and good coffee and hold a marketing strategy session that will help your business skyrocket into 2018.

Before you get started, we wanted to share a few of the marketing tactics that will help you stay ahead of competitors and start your year on the front foot!

1. The rise of chatbots and artificial intelligence on social media.

This is a big one!

Chatbots are a form of AI that can have conversations with your customers. They are already a common tool for larger businesses and are available to smaller businesses looking to improve day-to-day operations, connect with customers and increase their sales.

One of the greatest benefits we see here is the use of chatbots in places where people already are - through social media and text - rather than through apps. Coffee businesses are using chatbots to take orders through Facebook Messenger and chatbots have also revolutionised the way competitions are carried out on social media.

This technology has already started to disrupt the way we work and how we perform some of our regular daily tasks, so keep an eye out and think about how they can apply to your business.

2. The significance of the micro influencers.

You’ve probably heard of influencer marketing. Embracing and engaging with the community of Instagram and Facebook influencers in your industry has already become a well-established and powerful marketing tool for businesses.

However, tapping into ambassadors for your brand to get your message, product or services out to your customers has shifted a little.

While celebrities or macro influencers with a following of over 500,000 have been favoured previously, we’ve noticed a shift towards the value gained through micro influencers (people with 1,000 to 100,000 followers on social media).

A recent study found that users with more than 100,000 followers only get 1.7% engagement on content uploaded to their social sites. Conversely, users with 4,000 to 100,000 followers get 2.4% engagement. That’s a significant difference in engagement.

Micro influencers are deemed more approachable, relatable and trustworthy - plus advertising is cheaper. And let’s face it, it’s obvious that the majority of the content on a celebrity's profile falls into the sponsorship category rather than being raw, real and engaging to your potential customers.

Is influencer marketing on your radar? Our top tip is to make sure you do your research first. Find brand ambassadors whose followers are your ideal customer by searching through their follower list rather than basing your decision on their images and content alone.

3. Content marketing is no longer a nice-to-have - it’s key!

Content marketing as a business marketing tactic is still rocking the digital world and is stronger than ever!

In fact, in a recent survey of business owners and executives, content marketing was the top activity pinpointed as having the largest commercial impact in 2018 on their business. Content marketing was rated well above AI, big data, social media, SEO and marketing automation.

Content marketing fuels engagement, creates a community around your business and builds referrals to your products and services. With inbound marketing and lead capturing and nurturing tools now available, you no longer have to spend five nights out a week networking to gain customers - you can bring them to you!

Our top tip is to focus on quality content rather than the quantity of content, as this will help build better engagement with your content and encourage Google to send you a little SEO love!

At Squib, we believe that engaging content is one of the most powerful tools that businesses can use to reach and convert potential customers.
